Welcome to Celia’s Perfect Artichoke, where you will find my stories about Family, Food, Art, and Travel.

My life experience has been both full and diverse. I grew up Italian in New York, ran a successful restaurant as a single mother in Charleston South Carolina, and curated an amazing art collection at a Trappist Monastery. I’ve been fortunate to travel, especially to Italy, where I lived in Rome studying art for a year. Over the years I have brought groups to Italy for culinary and cultural tours. I will share memories and highlights from my travels, including some art history and recipes. I now spend more time in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, and have lots to share about my experiences in this beautiful paradise.

Food and entertaining have been an integral part of my last 50 years, and I have collected and written more recipes than I can count. My favorites, however, are those from my mother Tina, my Sicilian Nonna Giovanina, and my Abruzzese Grandma Pia. I will be sharing many of these treasures along the way, bringing you into my family’s kitchens, talking about the recipes’ provenance, how they’ve changed over the generations, and how we have always used them to celebrate our family events and milestones.

I look forward to sharing these and many other stories with you!

Musings about my passion for Food, Family, Art, and Travel. Coming from a culturally rich Italo-American background, food and the arts were almost as important as family. I invite you to relax and enjoy my stories, reflections, and recipes.
